Michelle Obama may be the tallest first lady ever standing at 5 feet 11 inches tall. The average American woman stands at 5'4.
That makes Michelle Obama TALL.
The height of Michelle Obama means a lot for women around the world? While many tall women have served as role models in the past, many have been either athletes or models. Michelle Obama is a new role model for tall women. She graduated from Princeton cum laude while majoring in sociology. Michelle then topped that off with her Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law and raised her accolades by being listed among "25 of the World's Most Inspiring Women" by Essence Magazine in 2006.
On The Tall Street Journal, a social network for tall men and tall women, many women are very strong and proud of their height, while some are embarrassed and shy away from being tall, due to the social pressures of being tall. Some women even suffer depression induced by their own fabulous stature. Tall women suffer these unfair stereotypes because they are tall and because others attack those insecurities due to their own feelings of inadequacy.
However do you ever hear these tall stereotyped statements about Michelle Obama?
I have yet to hear these words. I doubt we will. Tall women world wide should hear and acknowledge this silence, this void of opposition as a loud resounding voice saying "Michelle Obama is tall. She is intelligent, fashionable, respected and admired. I too will be tall. I will now demand those qualities from myself and others. Yes I can."
The leadership and elegance of Michelle Obama stands tall among other tall role models. I hope to see more tall women willing to grab their heels, assert their height and femininity while claiming their regal elegance. Strong, proud, tall women that refuse to shrink away. Tall women that embrace their beauty and intelligence to claim a place of leadership and influence in all facets of life, just as Michelle Obama does today.
