Golf Clubs

One sport I've never really played is golf. This is because of the giant conundrum involved with golf.

I could play with regular clubs and look like a awkward teen giraffe trying to get its first sip of water with my legs spread out super wide to be short enough to accommodate standard clubs.

The other option would be to go to the extravagant expense of purchasing my own custom built clubs for a person that is 6'11. My guess is that that is not cheap.

Why would I go to such expense just to try out a sport that in the end I may not like anyhow.

Has anyone else faced the conundrum? Anyone bought the clubs and hated the sport afterward?
